Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) and Hyundai Heavy Industries held an industry-academy technology exchange meeting and a business agreement ceremony at the Seoul National University College of Engineering on September 22, 2010, attended by Dean Kookheon Char of Seoul National University College of Engineering and President Wonho Joo of Hyundai Heavy Industries Central Research Institute.

SNU College of Engineering selected engineering professors who will undertake a total of 10 next-generation new technology development tasks for each technology field through SNU Engineering Consulting Center's industry-university technology matching process. In addition, through business cooperation agreements, Seoul National University College of Engineering that has excellent research capacity and Hyundai Heavy Industries, which is a global shipbuilding and energy company, have decided to cooperate together to create new future growth engines in the heavy industry sector.

To achieve this, the cooperation will start from 10 university-industry cooperation projects in the field of mechanical engineering, navy engineering, electric engineering, chemical engineering, material engineering and industrial engineering. They plan to enlarge the cooperation projects and will build solid foundation for future business by developing new engineering technologies.
Specifically, the projects include the design of new framework that will contribute to the improvement of the performance of LNG liquefaction process, the development of LNG re-liquefaction system for non-explosive mixed refrigerant, the evaluation technology for ship’s hydroelasticity in the wave and the process system design of CO2 reinjection.

Dean Char said “When Hyundai Heavy Industries suggest technologies and research projects that they need, SNU Engineering Consulting center will find appropriate expertise in the required filed. This process will be really efficient and meaningful since College of Engineering will be able to study technologies that are required in the industry. ”
About 30 people including president Wonho Joo and vice-president Giseon Jung of Hyundai Heavy Industries Central Research Institute, researchers of the projects, Dean Kookheon Char and professors who are going to participate the projects attended the Seoul National University College of Engineering - Hyundai Heavy Industries' Technology Exchange Meeting.
