Since opening of the Seoul National University Graduate School of Engineering Practice (hereafter GSEP) in 2016, first student graduated and visible achievements have been made in improving SME technology..

Byeong-il Yang, who works as an engineer in the research and development department of automotive parts surface treatment and manufacturing company DMT, started his degree course at GSEP from the 2016 spring semester with the support of the company.

He has been working on improving the machining process and improving the productivity at the company. Based on the theoretical content learned from the GSEP coursework and the supervision of professor Sung-Hoon Ahn(department of mechanical and aerospace engineering), he has succeeded to develop optimization process through verification experiments on microhole drilling process using endmill.

The technology for improving the machining load according to the number of edges and the pocket size of the endmill, which has been verified in this study, was developed for the main production products of DMT. If the technology is applied to production through the company's own application verification process, it is expected to have a substantial effect by shortening the production time of the process by about 7% and increasing the tool life by more than 20%.

Byeong-il Yang said, “I was able to take various classes through various professors and have helped our company by solving the technical problems of the company through research project. I felt rewarded for my work. "

The president Namjune Yang of DMT said, "We have always thought that a systematic approach based on theories for each process is necessary at the manufacturing site. With the support of Seoul National University, we have achieved more than expected results that can be applied to actual production" .

The supervisor Sung-Hoon Ahn, who is also the vice president of GSEP, said "The researches of the SNU College of Engineering aims to be the first and the best in the world and we have been solving difficult industrial problems through industry-university cooperation projects. There are a lot of things that can be solved in just a few days or weeks when utilizing knowledge and equipment of the college. In order to solve problems that companies face, professors and researchers should sympathize with their difficulties. Therefore, it is necessary to connect industry and university more closely. "

Meanwhile, SNU GSEP is the first domestic engineering MBA program, which provide systematic theoretical education for corporate employees in order to apply the theory into the practice. It is currently recruiting the third new students (80 students) by October 20th
