On September 19th, the Seoul National University College of Engineering (dean Cha Kook-Heon) announced that Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Lee Jong-Ho received Kyung-Amn Award awarded by Kyung-Amn Education & Culture Foundation.

Prof. Lee has developed the world’s first ‘bulk finFET technology’, a 3-dimensional semiconductor device, which has been adopted as a core standard technology by major semiconductor corporations such as Intel and Samsung, raising the status of Korean semiconductor technology in the world.

The 3D transistor technology developed by Professor Lee is applied not only to mass production of core semiconductor chips such as CPU (Central Processing Unit), AP (Application Processor) and GPU (Graphic Processing Unit), but also to the production of NPU (Neutral Processing Unit) for artificial intelligence, creating a huge national wealth and contributing to the development of semiconductor related industries, domestic and international.

In addition, since his service from 2009, Prof. Lee has received various awards such as Prime Minister’s award for Men of National Merit in semiconductor technology development in 2011, Young Engineer Award and Green Stripes Order of Service Merit in 2015 and Best Achievement Award in Industrial-Academic Research project outstanding invention in 2016.

Kyung-Amn Award is awarded to scholars and artists who have contributed to the common good of society with their outstanding accomplishment in their fields. Prize winners will receive 200 million won in prize money and plaques.
