‘Water charge of about 30 million won can be saved in a year’ : Completion of a rainwater-low concentration sewage hybrid facility installed at Gwanak Dormitory

Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean, Kookheon Char) announced that it will hold a ceremony for the completion of a rainwater-low concentration sewage hybrid facility installed at Gwanak Dormitory (Building 919 A, B, C, Dong) at 11:30 am on the 29th.
At the completion ceremony, the facility installed at Seoul Gwanak Dormitory will be opened and will be operated in earnest to supply toilet water to the school dormitory. Jeyeol Cho, a chief of the dormitory, and Professor Mooyoung Han of Department of the Civil and Environmental Engineering will attend the event.
The rainwater-low concentration sewage hybrid facility can produce 50 cubic meters of treated water and replaces tap water which is used as toilet wash water by supplying treated water to the living room. With this facility, the water saving effect of 17,800 m3 / year is generated and the water charge of about 30 million won can be saved.
Although rainwater has good water quality and it could reduce the flood, but it is difficult to secure a stable quantity due to seasonal variations. In the case of low concentration sewage, it is possible to secure a stable quantity while the water quality is not good. The drawbacks of using rainwater and low concentration sewage together can be minimized by complementing each other.
Professor Mooyoung Han, who designed the facility, said, "Institutional support and financial support are required to apply this kind of systems to existing buildings. We also need to build a sustainable water circulation system by installing a rainwater-low concentration sewage hybrid facility in apartment houses in order to protect our beautiful environment.”
Rainwater - Low Concentration Sewage Hybrid Facility is a research project supported by Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, and the Waterfirst Laboratry of Seoul National University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and HAESUNG Engineering worked together for the project.
