The Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) has announced that the 8th International Conference on Appropriate Technology 2017 will be held from December 1st (Fri.) to 2nd (Sat.) at Seoul National University 38th Building (1st) and Global Convention Plaza (2nd). The conference will be hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Yoo Young-Min) and will be jointly organized by 18 institutions and organizations, including the National Research Foundation of Korea Global Network for Sharing Appropriate Technology.
  
The fourth industrial revolution, represented by Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Robots not only uses cutting-edge technology, but also includes the concept of developing and supplying products appropriately to the needs of consumers. These appropriate technologies also provide the right materials and technologies to meet the needs of particular regions.
 
This event connects the fourth industrial revolution and the right technology, which are concepts that seem unrelated. Professor Barret Hazeltine of Brown University who made a significant contribution to the development of appropriate technology education materials for developing countries, and Professor Cha Sang-gyun, the first chairman of Seoul National University's Big Data Research Institute and explain the connection between the two.
  
Shin Hee-young, vice president of SNU Research Institution, Kim Myung-ja, chairman of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, Oh Se-jeong, the National Assembly member of the People’s Party, and Jang Bo-Hyun, International Cooperation Officer of Ministry of Science and ICT will attend the ceremony. Honorary professor Yoo Young-Jae of Seoul National University and professor Cho Kyu-jin of Seoul National University, an expert of biometic robotics, will share the "Fourth Industrial Revolution and appropriate technology dialogue" with experts in each field.
 
The conference, which will be held under the theme of 'The Role of Appropriate Technology in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution', will be divided into two events: the main event (first day) and the student’s event (second days). On the first day, there will be a total of 11 academic presentations, with about 100 experts and about 500 attendees.
  
Student events will be held on the 2nd day, and the activities and application of appropriate technology of SNU Institute for Global Social Responsibility and POSTEC will be introduced. In addition, students from various middle and high school such as Seoul Science High School, Korean Minjok Leadership Academy and Daewon International Middle School will present their creative applications and suggestions of appropriate technology.
