On 1st, SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) has announced that Professor Na Yong-Su of Department of Nuclear Engineering was appointed as the chairman of ‘Integrated Operation Scenario Group’ of International Tokamak Physics Activity, which is a group of international professionals aiming for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor.
The ITER project is the largest international joint research and development project in history. The project pushed forward by 7 countries including Korea, EU, USA, Japan, Russia, China, and India, and is aimed at developing fusion energy to solve human energy problems.
ITPA, which is responsible for the fusion plasma physics of ITER, is an international professional organization composed of experts from various countries participating in ITER. Professor Na is the first Korean to be the chairman of ITPA's integrated operation scenario group. He will lead the group for three years starting in December 2017 with the goal of solving ITER's integrated operating-related issues and developing core operating scenarios.
