SNU Professor Heo Eun-Nyeong received the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy Minister’s Award

-cultivated talents of developing countries through IEPP

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) has announced that Professor Heo Eun-Nyeong of Department of Energgy & System Engineering has received the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Minister’s Award on December 7th, in Overseas Resource development symposium.
 
This Overseas Resource Development Symposium was held under the theme of ‘Strategy for overseas resource development in the era of the fourth industrial revolution.’ Morre than 400 people attended, including Pak Won-Joo, head of energy resource department of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, President Kim Young-Min of Korea Resources Corporation, President Moon Jae-Do of Korea Trade Insurance Corporation and Director Shin Joong-Ho of Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources.
 
At the ceremony, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy awarded 10 people who have made efforts or support for securing resources in each field even in the difficult situation, such as professor Heo of Seoul National University, managing director of LG Hong Hyung-ki, and Group chairman of POSCO Daewoo Kim Dae-Yeol.
 
Professor Heo has been running the International Energy Policy Program (IEPP), a postgraduate education program for foreign civil servants since 2009 at Seoul National University.
 
The award is the recognition of Professor Huh’s effort in fostering more than 80 officials of energy-resource related departments selected from 27 different counties through SNU master and doctoral program.
 
IEPP is a overseas officials scholarship program for energy-related ministries in developing countries in Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Central Asia, and is supported by MOTIE.
 
In this course, six to twelve students are selected for SNU master and doctoral program every year with tuition and living expenses supported. In addition to the regular curriculum, it also supports industrial-academic cooperation activities with domestic companies, overseas expansion of domestic companies, and Korean education of foreign students.
 
In his award acceptance speech, Professor Heo said, "I am delighted that my efforts in running the IEPP for the last 8 years even under difficult circumstances are recognized.” And that "I will continue to cultivate diverse talents through Seoul National University."
