Seoul National University (Dean, Kookheon Char) announced that they will begin to develop content that easily explains the field of advanced engineering research, so that elementary school students can understand it. Therefore, they will start the "Easy Word" project, which explains engineering researches in basic Korean words.

For this projects, professors from department of mechanical and aerospace engineering, department of nuclear engineering, department of materials science and engineering, school of biological and chemical engineering, and department of computer science and engineering participated. They use only 2,000 easy Korean words for this project.

The reason why Seoul National University has taken off for the popularization of engineering technology is that engineering perceived as an unfamiliar and difficult field for the generic public even though everyday life is getting closer to engineering. There is a survey that the interest in science and technology has fallen compared to the decade ago for both the general public and the youth group.

Dean Kookheon Char said, "In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, advanced technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and Internet (IoT) is pouring in. Through this work, many public would understand those advanced technologies without difficulties.”

10 engineering professors participated this project for the first version of the work. They opened self-editing website to help the work.

This project is a benchmarking of the US "Up Goer Five", which explains something using only the easiest 1000 words. They also plan to publish the results of the professors' work in the future and make it as a YouTube video series.

Professor Kwangkeun Yi, who planned the project, said, "If we introduce high-tech engineering research very easily, there will be more students dreaming of engineers with interest in engineering from a young age. It is expected to be activate interdisciplinary research in the future. "
