SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) states on 25th that Professor Lee Hyun-Soo from the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering has been elected as the 38th President of the Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK).
The Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK), which has approximately 25,000 active members, has carried out an online voting for presidential election over the two days of February 27th to 28th. Professor Lee, out of the 2116 regular members who have completed the vote, has won over 60% to be elected as president. His two-year office terminates in April of 2020.
Professor Lee has completed his undergraduate and master’s at SNU Department of Architecture and has received his doctor’s degree in construction engineering and management at the University of Michigan. Lee has returned to SNU as a professor of the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering in 1997 to foster younger students. He also holds the position of Vice President at the Building Construction Committee of the AIK and President of the Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Management.
Professor Lee majors in the field of construction engineering and management and has published over 220 research papers on the respective field with approximately 110 papers of SCI-level (Science Citation Index). He has won numerous awards, including a Prime Minister’s Commendation on “2016 World ConsMa Day,” Commendation from the Chief Commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy on “2014 Architecture Day,” Scholarship Award as a Distinguished Engineering Professor, AIK Best Paper Award, AIK Scholarship Award, and the Best Paper Award from the American Society of Civil Engineering.
Lee states, “I will be devoted to the duties of the institute to achieve harmony and cooperation in the architectural community that shall lead an innovative future. I will also inherit the founding ideologies of the AIK, which has a history of 73 years, to upgrade it to an international academic society.
Meanwhile, the inauguration ceremony is planned to be held on April 26th to 27th during “2018 AIK General Assembly and Spring Conference.”
