Professor Lee Byoungho has led active researches in 3-dimensional display, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and optical diffraction. He has been awarded for his technology and skills in integral imaging and holography for autostereoscopic display.
The Sudang Prize has been established by the founder of Samyang, Chairman Kim Yeon-su to nurture talents in variety of fields. The prize, which began as “Sudang Science Prize,” has expanded to the three areas of natural science, applied science, and humanities and social science since 2006.
The 27th Sudang Prize Ceremony has been held at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul from 5PM on May 8th. The award recipient is given a medal along with an honorarium of 100 million KRW.
Professor Lee Byoung-ho has received his undergraduate and master’s degree at SNU Department of Electrical Engineering and his doctor’s degree at University of California, Berkeley. Afterwards, he has returned to SNU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a professor. Lee has conducted active researches in optical diffraction, 3D display, and nano-optics to serve as a member of the SPIE (an international society for optics and photonics) in 2002, a member of the Optical Society (OSA) in 2005, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) in 2013, co-founder of the OSA Topic Meeting on Digital Holography and 3D Imaging, chair of the OSA Holography and Diffractive Optics Technical Group, and chair of the steering committee of the Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO Pacific Rim) in 2016. Lee has also won “This Month’s Scientist Award” of the Ministry of Science and ICT in September of 2009 and SNU Excellence in Research Award in November of 2013.
