Doctor Ji-Hyeon Song is the First to Receive Joint Ph.D. Degree from Seoul Nation University and Georgia Institute of Technology
Doctor Ji-Hyeon Song from our school’s Innovative Design and Integrated Manufacturing Lab (Professor Sung-Hoon Ahn) received a joint Ph.D. degree from Seoul National University and Georgia Institute of Technology on May 3rd. She was the first to receive this degree.
The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), located in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the leading engineering universities in US. The school provides an education with particular focus on technology to over 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students indulged in a variety of field from engineering, computing, science, business to design. Its mechanical engineering is highly-acclaimed within US.
Doctor Song, during her doctoral course, received guidance from Professor Sung-Hoon Ahn from SNU Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Professor Yan Wang of Georgia Tech. She received her degree with her doctoral dissertation titled, “A Nanoparticle Laser Patterning Process to Fabricate Flexible Electronics.”
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of SNU is the only department in the College of Engineering that operates the joint Ph.D. program with Georgia Tech. Students enrolled in the program visits Georgia Tech for a year to conduct joint-researches and must fulfill the graduation requirements of both schools to receive the degree.
