SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on 21st that Professor Eunhyea Chung of the Department of Energy Resources Engineering received the Young Engineer Award from the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers (President Won Mo Sung).

The Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers, since its establishment in 1962, has been conducting active researches on drilling and exploration of minerals, energy, and natural resources. Its Young Engineer Award is given to a member under 40 that has demonstrated outstanding research activities.

Professor Eunhyea Chung graduated from the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering of SNU to proceed on to Georgia Institute of Technology to receive her doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering. She then worked at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and later returned to SNU.

Professor Chung, with her knowledge on colloids and surface chemistry, researched thoroughly on pollution treatment technologies via resource development and recycling technologies to retrieve useful resources from contaminated water. With these researches as scaffolds, she further investigated on developing gas separation process for reduction of greenhouse gases and hydrogen production and raising the efficiency of thermal energy management. Chung’s such researches were acknowledged for bringing depth to the resources engineering field, thus qualifying her as the recipient of this award.
