SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on 12th that the 2019 Convergence Research Conference with the College of Medicine was hosted on June 4th at the Global Education Center for Engineers (Building 38) within campus.
This event served to amplify the synergy of interdisciplinary research between the two colleges by reinforcing active research cooperation that can bring about original and unique findings that independent researches cannot achieve.
Five tasks were proposed for this year. They include: ▲ Development of a High-speed Cultivation based Antibiotic Susceptibility Test for Next Generation Sepsis Diagnosis (Professor Sunghoon Kwon of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor Nam Joong Kim of the Department of Internal Medicine), ▲ Treatment and Protection for Intractable Oral Mucositis Using Multifunctional Hydrogel Sheet (Professor Nathaniel Hwang of the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering and the professors of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology) and three other projects.
Six presentations were delivered on the results of last year’s tasks. To list a few: ▲ Development of Chiral Plasmonic Sensor for Monitoring Structural Changes in Protein (Professor Ki Tae Nam of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Professor Ho-Young Lee of the Department of Nuclear Medicine), Development and Verification of Deep Learning Algorithm for Gynecological Malignancy Detection in Computed Tomography Scans (Professor Yeong Gil Shin of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Professor Hyun Hoon Chung of the Department of Gynecology), etc.
Professor Kookheon Char, the dean of the College of Engineering stated, “Through this event we share our accomplishments in the previous year’s tasks and resolve to bring about even better results this year. We will continue to encourage and foster convergence research with the College of Medicine.”
