SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced that 5 social contribution programs, including the ‘Summer Camp For Young Engineering Frontiers’, was hosted for a total of 1,500 middle and high-school students from across the country. The students were given the opportunity to explore their engineering career and received career counseling.
The 5 summer vacation social contribution programs hosted by SNU College of Engineering include "Summer Camp For Youth Engineering Frontiers," "Gongdream 工 Dream Camp," "Gwanak-gu SNU Engineering Camp," "College of Engineering Student's Association Summer Volunteer Service" and "Vision Mentoring." Through the program, SNU College of Engineering provided students with opportunities to participate in engineering experiments that they had not experienced in school, and held a briefing session introducing the different majors at SNU College of Engineering. The students expressed their thoughts, claiming that it was an opportunity that solidified their dream of becoming a future engineer.
'The Summer Camp For Young Frontiers' was a program that provided engineering career exploration for future engineers, and was conducted thrice for 3 days and 2 nights at SNU for 240 of 11th grade high school students. The "Gwanak-gu SNU Engineering Camp" was a program designed to encourage high school students in Gwanak-gu to take interest in engineering, thus fostering talent that will contribute to future scientific development. A total of 100 students from Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province attended the "Gongdream (工) Dream Camp", a program for pre-engineering students who lacked sufficient opportunities in receiving engineering education. “Vision Mentoring” was a program that provided information about studies, lifestyle, various activities at an engineering college, and the paths or courses one can consider after graduation. It was held at the SNU Tomorrow’s Engineers Membership (STEM) and was attended by 700 high school students from across the country. The "College of Engineering Student's Association Summer Volunteer Service" was also held during the summer vacation where SNU College of Engineering students visited specific regions to provide educational services such as engineering experience and mentoring.
"New technology developed by a competent engineer can change the society as a whole." said Dean Kookheon Char of SNU College of Engineering. "We hope that through the summer program provided by SNU College of Engineering, students will develop the qualities of global leaders that are capable of contributing to future societal development," he added.
