SNU Professor Dong-il Cho of the Department of Electrical & Information Engineering was elected as the next president of the three-year term (2020-2023) at the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) regular general meeting held in Berlin, Germany on July 17.
Founded in 1957, the IFAC is based in Vienna, Austria, and with 49 countries having joined, is the world's largest academic organization in the field of automatic control in the world. During the three-year session, the IFAC is a large-scale society that holds more than 90 academic conferences in more than 30 countries and publishes seven top-level papers in the field.
In particular, the IFAC World Congress and the General Assembly of member states are held every three years with approximately 4,000 people attending. The next competition will be held in Yokohama, Japan in 2023, and the competition after that will be held in Busan, Korea in 2026.
As such, IFAC is being actively operated, leading key areas of the fourth industrial revolution, including control, robots, autonomous driving, smart factories and smart energy. "I hope this will be an opportunity for Korea to become a country that leads high-tech industries," said President Dong-il Cho, following his election.
