UAE Minister of Youth and Space Center Director Visit SNU College of Engineering to Discuss Space Collaboration

Seoul National University College of Engineering announced that Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, the first astronaut from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to complete a long-duration space mission and the current UAE Minister of Youth, visited the college on March 20 to discuss potential collaboration in the field of space research.

The meeting was attended by Nora Al Matrooshi, the first female astronaut from the Arab world; Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, UAE Ambassador to South Korea; Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director-General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC); Kim Young-oh, Dean of SNU College of Engineering; Kwanjung Yee, Chair of the Department of Aerospace Engineering; and Bok Jik Lee, Vice Dean for Research at SNU College of Engineering.

During the discussion, Dean Kim Young-oh introduced SNU’s research plans in the field of space technology and proposed establishing an active collaboration. In response, Minister Al Neyadi expressed his hopes for close cooperation with SNU in areas such as human resource development, CubeSat development, and space medicine research.

As a first step toward formalizing collaboration between SNU and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, both parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the near future.

Following the meeting, Minister Al Neyadi delivered a lecture that sparked high interest and enthusiastic participation from students, leading to lively discussions.
