Seoul National University College of Engineering announced on August 11 that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) to strengthen educational and research collaboration. The agreement was signed during a visit by an HUST delegation led by its president, Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang.

On August 12, coinciding with the state visit of General Secretary To Lam of Vietnam, Dean Young-oh Kim of SNU College of Engineering participated in the Korea–Vietnam Business Forum held at Lotte Hotel in Seoul, where he and President Huynh Quyet Thang formally exchanged the signed MOU documents.

Since last year, SNU College of Engineering has actively promoted its scholarship programs to attract outstanding students from leading Vietnamese universities. Among them, HUST has emerged as one of SNU’s most promising strategic partners. Under this agreement, the two institutions will collaborate extensively on various initiatives, including exchange programs for undergraduate and graduate students, joint research projects across engineering disciplines, and scholarship programs designed to support outstanding Vietnamese students.

Dean Young-Oh Kim expressed his enthusiasm, stating “We are delighted to partner with Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a leading institution in Vietnam where there is an abundance of young and dynamic talent. Through this agreement, we aim to create opportunities for students from both countries to engage in active academic exchange and grow into globally competitive engineers.”

This MOU aligns with SNU College of Engineering’s EXCEL Project (Education for X-Caliber Engineering Leaders), which focuses on attracting exceptional undergraduate students from developing countries and nurturing them into future global leaders in engineering.

Vietnam, one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, has seen surging demand for engineering and IT talent, accompanied by increasing investment in education. Recognizing this potential, SNU plans to identify and recruit top Vietnamese engineering talent early, provide structured training and mentoring programs, and support employment opportunities in both Korean companies operating in Vietnam and domestic industries.

Through these initiatives, SNU College of Engineering aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of engineering leaders while deepening Korea–Vietnam academic and industrial collaboration.
