SNU College of Engineering Hosts Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced this year’s distinguished alumni Seok-hee Lee, the CEO of SK Hynix, Dae-Gyu Byun, the CEO of Humax Holdings, and Sung-Sup (Andre) Han, the Vice President of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Korea, at the SNU Engineering House on 3rd.
The Distinguished Alumni Award acknowledges SNU College of Engineering alumni that have contributed to the development of industrial technology or raised the reputation of alma mater by his or her outstanding academic achievements and service to the community. Since 1993, the award nominated a total of 92 recipients including 28 for overseas activities and 64 for domestic activities.
Mr. Seok-hee Lee, the CEO of SK Hynix, completed his undergraduate on Inorganic Material Engineering in 1988 where he also received his master’s degree in 1990. He then traveled across to Stanford University to finish his doctor’s degree. After working at Hyundai Electronics and Intel, he settled down in SK Hynix where he devoted to semiconductor manufacturing and development of new technologies to lead the growth of Korean semiconductor industry.
Mr. Dae-Gyu Byun, the CEO of Humax Holdings, earned his bachelor’s degree on Control and Measurement Engineering at SNU College of Engineering in 1983 and also received his master’s and doctor’s degree at the same department. Since the establishment of Humax Holdings in 1989, Byun raised his company to become one of leading companies on digital set-top box. He became the representative director of Humax in 1989 and took the CEO position in 2014 to greatly contribute to the vitalization of venture companies and industrial development as first-generation venture.
Mr. Sung-Sup (Andre) Han, the Vice President of ABS Korea, graduated from SNU Department of Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in 1975 and served at the ABS for 43 years to become the first Korean to reach the highest position of the hierarchy. While working at ABS, he greatly supported the growth of Korean marine industry by taking on challenging projects including the first prospecting ship building of Hyundai Heavy Industries, container ship manufacturing of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and drillship manufacturing of Samsung Heavy Industries.
