Doctor Jeehoon Kang of SNU Department of Computer Science and Engineering was appointed as assistant professor of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) to teach on algorithm right after his PhD graduation in February.

Doctor Kang’s main fields are concurrent programming and parallel programming. He has been designing and testing libraries and programming models that do not create bottleneck in multicore systems.

Kang is stretching his research field on concurrency and parallelism from compiler and programming language up to algorithm and application and down to operating system and hardware. He received his doctoral degree from SNU Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 2019 for defining the low-level functions of C language.

During his PhD course, Kang led the development of the maintainer of Crossbeam, a concurrent library of Rust, and also contributed to the development of compiler for deep learning hardware accelerator as the chief scientist at Furiosa Al.

He also received the PLDI (Programming Language Design and Implementation) Paper Award in 2017.
