Holds a Great Debate on September 2~3
 
- A debate to establish the direction of change at Seoul National University's College of Engineering in the wake of a new era
- “Gonghaeng (工行) – Inquiring our path to take a leap forward”

Seoul National University's College of Engineering (hereinafter referred to as SNU College of Engineering) announced that it will hold a large, two-day debate from September 2 (Thursday) to 3 (Friday) in line with the establishment of the new dean associates (new dean Byoungho Lee). This event includes a discussion session with students and faculty, held under the theme of “Gongdam (工談: Our Voices)”,  suggestions from a leader in the engineering field under the theme of “Gongcheong (工請: Hopes for the College of Engineering)”, and a discussion forum titled “Gongron (工論: Discussing the College of Engineering." It is hoped to serve as a discussion forum to allow the exploration of the direction of change at the SNU College of Engineering, in order to actively be involved with social vocation and global trends.
 
On September 2 (Thursday), the first day of the event, a discussion with the dean associates is planned to be held with four groups - associate/assistant professors, staff, undergraduate students and graduate students. The discussion forum, which will be held privately, plans to share the perception of the SNU College of Engineering members regarding the current status of the College of Engineering to broaden consensus, and an in-depth discussion on what needs to be improved will also be conducted. For this discussion, a survey is being conducted in advance to gather opinions from faculty and students, and it is also shown to have the active participation of foreign students.
 
On the 3rd (Friday), following the congratulatory remarks by President Se-Jung Oh and the encouragement speech by Boo-Sup Lee - Head of the SNU College of Engineering alumni committee (Chairman of Dongjin Semichem Co. Ltd.), leaders from engineering fields, such as Seok-Hee Lee - CEO of SK Hynix, Taek-jin Kim - CEO of NCsoft, Doh-Yeon Kim - former President of POSTECH, Ki-young Choi - former Minister of Science and ICT,  Woo Il Lee - President of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, Min-Koo Han -  President of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, Oh Kyong Kwon - President of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, and MIT Professor Jung-Hoon Chun, will share reasons for the need for change and expectations at the College of Engineering from an outsider’s perspective at the “Gongcheong (工請: Hopes for the College of Engineering)” session.
Moreover, during the “Gongron(工論: Discussing the College of Engineering" session, Sungroh Yoon - Chairperson of the Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Jeyong     Yoon - President of the Korea Environment Institute, will give their presentations on the fourth industrial revolution and carbon neutrality/climate change followed by speakers like Young-Oh Kim - Representative of Feelsci, Sin-Doo Lee, head of the National Research, Development, Investment and Innovation Planning Team, Jeong-dong Lee - former Special Advisor to the President on Economy and Science at the Cheong Wa Dae and Hyo Jeong Kim - President of Women In Engineering Network SNU, who, presided over by Eunnyeong Heo - Chairman of the Korea Society of Innovation, will discuss the direction of development of the College of Engineering. Thereafter, Professor Kyu-Jin Cho, Professor Ki Tae Nam, Professor Sung-Hoon Ahn, and Professor and Thomas Kang will give a presentation about Best Practice cases. The event, taking place on September 3 (Friday) will be broadcasted online through ZOOM and YouTube.
 
 “Through such processes of communication and discussion, we wish to create an opportunity for the SNU College of Engineering to respond to social demands, receive love from the Korean society and become a global leader. We intend to contribute to our society by nurturing engineering talents, foster research laboratories that conduct world-class research as well as by creating many laboratories dedicated to research to solve national and social issues,” said Byoungho Lee, the new dean.
 
Meanwhile, Byoungho Lee, who will be inaugurated as the 30th dean of Seoul National University's College of Engineering as of September 1, is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is a fellow of four international academic communities; the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), the Optical Society (OSA), and the Society for Information Display (SID), and as a full member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, he is a world-renowned scholar for his academic achievements. He has been consistently volunteering at domestic and foreign academic organizations such as being the president of the Optical Society of Korea and the president of the Korean Information Display Society.
