SK Group's industrial artificial intelligence (AI) company, Gauss Labs, and Seoul National University's Institute of New Media and Communications announced on September 3 (Friday) that an agreement ceremony was held to strengthen AI-related research capabilities and to foster outstanding talent.

The signing ceremony was held in the conference room of the Institute of New Media and Communications at Seoul National University in the presence of Professor Jung Woo Lee - Head of the SNU Institute of New Media and Communications, Professor Jong-Ho Lee - Head of the Operation and Planning Department and Young-Han Kim - CEO of Gauss Labs.

Through this signing ceremony, both sides plan to promote human resource exchange, joint research, and share research infrastructure and research results, as well as lay the foundation for talented individuals to demonstrate their capabilities at Gauss Labs.

Gauss Labs was launched in August last year when it established its headquarters in Silicon Valley, USA and is currently developing solutions that can increase production efficiency by utilizing data generated at SK Hynix's manufacturing site.

In the future, it plans to expand its business scope and grow into an industrial AI company that can lead innovation in global manufacturing sites of various industries.

“Through exchanges with Gauss Labs, which aims to become a world-class industrial AI company, we expect that students will be able to improve their capabilities while gaining experience in real industrial sites,” said Professor Jung Woo Lee, Head of the Institute of New Media and Communications at Seoul National University.

“The SNU Institute of New Media and Communications, established in 1991, is a cradle that has nurtured and produced talented individuals in the overall ICT convergence field, the basis of AI, for 30 years. Through active R&D and human exchange, we will do our best to strengthen our technology and nurture excellent talent,” said Young-Han Kim, CEO of Gauss Labs.

Meanwhile, Gauss Labs is currently recruiting talent in South Korea and the United States to accelerate its growth, and plans to expand exchanges with leading universities within Korea and abroad to secure technological prowess and talented individuals.

During this process, in June, it signed an agreement for research exchange with the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence at Seoul National University.
