Seoul National University’s (SNU) College of Engineering announced that the “2024 SNU-Dongseo Startup Produce 34 – 3rd & 4th Round Demo Day & Awards Ceremony” was successfully held on September 24 at Building 39 of the College of Engineering.
Funded by a generous donation from Mr. Kim Suk-soo, Chairman of Dongseo Co., Ltd., the SNU-Dongseo Startup Produce 34 program was launched in 2021 as a collaborative initiative between SNU’s College of Engineering and its Engineering Consulting Center, along with Dongseo Co., Ltd., to help promising startups prepare for investment. Since its inception, the program has incubated 30 award-winning startups across four rounds, attracting a total of 13 billion KRW in follow-up investments.
Held to commemorate the achievements of early-stage startups from the 3rd and 4th rounds, the event brought together key figures including Mr. Kim Suk-soo, Vice Dean of Research Lee Bok-jik, Professor Emeritus Yoon Jae-yoon, Professors Lee Jong-su and Kim Jang-gil, and 12 representatives from the award-winning companies.
During the awards ceremony, six outstanding startups were recognized from each round. In the 3rd round, “Phamirese,” a startup pioneering “digital breeding” by integrating molecular plant markers and AI to rapidly and precisely improve plant strains, took home the Gold Prize. “Stream Music” and “Wish List” jointly received the Silver Prize, while “Lifelex Science,” “PlantFat,” and “Haehwa” each received the Bronze Prize. From the 4th round, “Inbelab,” a company producing eco-friendly seed balls to naturally remove invasive plant species, won the Gold Prize. “MetaFarmers” and “AptaMarket” received the Silver Prize, with “Sweet and Data,” “NBiocell,” and “Tirohe” awarded the Bronze Prize.
Dean Young-oh Kim of SNU’s College of Engineering noted, “The Produce 34 program completes SNU’s systematic support for startups, covering every phase from pre-launch to investment. It provides an invaluable opportunity for startups to secure necessary resources, and we look forward to offering more support for future technology entrepreneurs.”
Chairman Kim Suk-soo of Dongseo Co., Ltd., stated, “What started as a small initiative to support startups facing financial difficulties during the pandemic has evolved into a system that effectively provides funding for early-stage ventures. I am deeply grateful to SNU’s College of Engineering for making this program a success, and I find great inspiration in the determination and achievements of the award-winning entrepreneurs.”
Starting in 2024, the SNU-Dongseo Startup Produce 34 program will focus on supporting startups in their fundraising efforts. Participating startups will benefit from tailored services, including 1-minute introductory videos, enhanced IR Deck designs, business model mentoring, press release distribution, preliminary investment reviews, business support grants, and more, with total benefits valued at 80 million KRW.
An official from SNU’s College of Engineering commented, “With our accumulated experience in nurturing technological talent, we plan to continue fostering youth entrepreneurship through various programs.
