Seoul National University College of Engineering announced that Professor Seong-woo Kim from the Graduate School of Engineering Practice has been elected as a 2024 Executive Committee Member of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES).
IFEES, often referred to as the “United Nations of Engineering,” is an international organization representing engineering education organizations worldwide. Major associations such as the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) actively participate in IFEES.
In this year’s election, Professor Kim, representing the Korean Society for Engineering Education (KSEE), was elected alongside representatives from the IEEE, ABET, INCOSE, AAEE, and SPEED.
Professor Kim’s appointment as an IFEES Executive Committee member is seen as a significant achievement in enhancing the international presence of Korea’s engineering education on a global scale. In his role, Professor Kim will contribute to global engineering education policy development, collaborate on international initiatives, and lead efforts to drive the advancement of engineering education.
Upon his election, Professor Kim shared, “I feel a great responsibility to contribute to the growth of engineering education in Korea and worldwide as an Executive Committee member representing diverse engineering education organizations through IFEES.” He further noted, “I am committed to fostering an international cooperative framework to develop engineering talent capable of tackling pressing global challenges such as carbon neutrality, aging populations, economic polarization, decoupling, and ethics in science and technology. Additionally, I will be responsible for international outreach efforts to ensure the success of the World Engineering Education Forum & Global Engineering Deans Council (WEEF & GEDC 2025), which will be held in Korea next year.”
