Seoul National University College of Engineering announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Association of Robot Industry on March 31 at the SNU Gwanak Campus to establish the “SNU Robotics Research Center.” The aim of the collaboration is to strengthen technological competitiveness in future robotics and to foster a startup ecosystem.
Through this partnership, the two institutions plan to pursue cooperation in a wide range of areas, including the establishment and operation of the SNU Robotics Research Center, nurturing global talent and building networks in the field of robotics, conducting joint R&D and technological development among industry, academia, and research institutes to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea’s robotics industry, and promoting technology commercialization, building a startup ecosystem, and establishing a real-world demonstration platform through collaborative research.
Young-oh Kim, Dean of SNU College of Engineering, emphasized, “All technologies are meaningful, but robotics is especially critical as it will shape our future.” He added, “Through this agreement, we will pursue responsible robotics research in collaboration with industry.”
Jin-oh Kim, President of the Korea Association of Robot Industry, remarked, “Although Korea’s robotics industry has achieved a considerable level of competitiveness, it is not yet at the top globally.” He expressed his expectations by stating, “I hope that SNU will present world-class technologies and foster global talent through its research and development efforts.”
