Professors and students from Seoul National University College of Engineering have thrown down the gauntlet in an escape room challenge.

To mark the 50th anniversary of its relocation to the Gwanak Campus, the SNU College of Engineering has planned and produced a six-episode variety show titled “SNU Squid Game.” From the moment of its release, the series has captured viewer attention with its exciting concept and fierce competition between professors and their students.

“SNU Squid Game” features teams of four professors and four students who face off in a high-stakes escape room battle, relying solely on their engineering knowledge and brainpower. The series is released on the SNU Engineering YouTube channel every Tuesday and Thursday, starting May 1. As of now, the prologue and Episodes 1 and 2 are available for viewing.

The escape room challenges include a wide range of missions, from basic science questions to creative engineering problems. The professors leverage their decades of accumulated theory and experience, while the student team brings quick thinking and deep familiarity with the latest technologies. The result is a series of intense matches. Particularly entertaining are the moments when professors break a sweat facing tough puzzles, all in a bid to defend the “honor of SNU Engineering”—giving audiences both laughs and awe.

An official from SNU Engineering stated, “This series was created to show the public—especially those who find engineering intimidating—that engineering is closely connected to our everyday lives and can be enjoyed by anyone.” They added, “Through SNU Squid Game, which blends entertainment with education, we hope more people will naturally grow curious about and engaged with the field of engineering.”

The final episode of “SNU Squid Game” is set to be released on May 20, at which point the competition will conclude and the winning team will be revealed.
