Prof. Sangjoon Shin, of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU), has received the APACM Computational Mechanics Award (Solid Mechanics Division) at the 2025 Asian Pacific Congress on Computational Mechanics (APCOM), organized by the Asian Pacific Association for Computational Mechanics (APACM). The award recognizes Prof. Shin’s world-class academic achievements in the field of computational mechanics and represents a significant milestone that further enhances the international profile of Korea’s aerospace engineering community.
The APACM Computational Mechanics Award is a prestigious honor presented to researchers who have demonstrated long-term excellence and outstanding scholarly contributions in computational mechanics. Across both solid mechanics and fluid mechanics, no more than three recipients are selected every three years, making the award particularly selective and highly regarded.
APACM highlighted Prof. Shin’s pioneering research achievements in aeroelasticity analysis for rotary-wing systems and in high-speed, large-scale parallel computational analysis, noting the originality and sustained impact of his work in these areas.
Prof. Shin has consistently pursued research aimed at addressing core challenges in aerospace engineering, including flexible multibody dynamics, analysis of next-generation high-speed rotary-wing aircraft, and structural safety and noise analysis for electrically powered advanced air mobility (AAM) systems. In addition, as Vice Chair of the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) Industry–Academia Committee, he has led extensive collaboration with domestic and international industrial partners and has contributed to the training of numerous master’s- and doctoral-level specialists. His continued efforts to establish new analytical methodologies in computational structural dynamics have also been cited as key factors underlying this award.
This recognition is widely regarded as an important example demonstrating that researchers at Seoul National University are playing a leading role in the international computational mechanics community.
